Cumulus Neuroscience’s NeuLogiq Platform Shows Feasibility for At-Home ALS and FTD Assessment

Cumulus Neuroscience has published final CNS-102 results in Scientific Reports, demonstrating the feasibility and usability of its NeuLogiq platform for at-home assessment of ALS and FTD. The eight-month study included 28 participants, 11 with ALS, seven with FTD, and 10 healthy controls, and combined in-clinic neuropsychological assessments with home-based NeuLogiq sessions every two weeks.

NeuLogiq pairs a 16-channel wireless dry-sensor EEG headset with a tablet-based battery of 10 gamified cognitive tasks covering executive function, memory, language, social cognition, and psychomotor speed. Among ALS participants, 82% rated the platform easy to use, while 75% gave a positive or very positive overall rating. Completed sessions also achieved 92% data completeness.

The platform differentiated ALS, FTD, and control groups at baseline with effect sizes comparable to clinician-administered neuropsychological testing. Exploratory longitudinal analyses identified changes in speech fluency and emotion recognition among ALS participants that were not detected by the in-clinic battery. However, the company noted that these findings require validation in larger studies.

Industry Perspective

ALS and ALS-FTD clinical research has traditionally relied heavily on motor-focused measures such as the ALSFRS-R, which may not fully capture cognitive and behavioral changes. Remote technologies combining EEG and digital cognitive assessments could enable more frequent, multimodal measurement while reducing the burden of repeated clinic visits.

The CNS-102 findings strengthen the potential role of NeuLogiq as a patient-friendly tool for decentralized neuroscience research and clinical trials. Its ability to generate multimodal data remotely could help researchers identify disease-related changes more frequently and support the development of more sensitive endpoints for ALS and FTD studies. The study was conducted with the PRECISIONALS initiative and involved pharmaceutical collaborators including Biogen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, GSK, and Takeda.
