The News
Switchboard Health has acquired Livara Health to expand its specialty care platform into virtual musculoskeletal (MSK) care. Livara’s model combines virtual care, care planning, and navigation delivered by physicians, physical therapists, and psychosocial providers. A 2024 Validation Institute review found a 43% reduction in MSK spending among Livara participants, largely driven by lower surgical utilization.
Following the acquisition, Switchboard will integrate Livara’s MSK program into its referral and care navigation workflows, allowing health plans and providers to connect eligible patients with virtual MSK specialists. The company also closed an oversubscribed equity financing round of more than $5 million.
Industry Perspective
The acquisition reflects the growing shift toward virtual and value-based MSK care, particularly approaches designed to reduce unnecessary procedures while improving access to multidisciplinary treatment.
Strategic Impact
By adding care delivery to its referral and navigation capabilities, Switchboard expands beyond connecting patients to specialists to directly supporting treatment, strengthening its position in high-value specialty care.
