Grindr to Acquire PurposeMed, Expanding PrEP and HIV Prevention Access Through Grindr Health

Overview

  • Grindr agreed to acquire PurposeMed, parent company of Freddie, a telehealth provider focused on PrEP and HIV prevention care, for $250 million in cash and stock, plus up to $70 million in additional cash tied to performance targets.
  • The acquisition will integrate Freddie’s telehealth, testing, prescription, pharmacy, and patient-support capabilities into Grindr Health.
  • The transaction is expected to close in Q4 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

The News

Grindr has agreed to acquire PurposeMed, including its Freddie brand, to expand access to PrEP and HIV prevention care through the Grindr app. Freddie provides physician-led telehealth, testing, prescriptions, medication delivery, and ongoing patient support and serves patients across all 50 U.S. states.

Following the acquisition, Grindr users will be able to learn about PrEP, complete assessments, connect with clinicians, arrange testing, receive prescriptions when appropriate, and manage refills and medication delivery through a connected Grindr Health experience. Freddie has helped more than 55,000 patients in Canada and the U.S. access PrEP.

Industry Perspective

PrEP can reduce the risk of HIV by approximately 99%, but the companies highlight a gap between the number of people who could benefit from PrEP and those currently using it. By combining digital reach with telehealth and clinical infrastructure, the transaction is designed to make recurring HIV prevention care more accessible and easier to manage.

Strategic Impact

The acquisition expands Grindr’s health and wellness business by adding Freddie’s regulated healthcare, telehealth, testing, and pharmacy capabilities. Grindr will combine Freddie with its existing Woodwork performance-medication offering to create a broader Grindr Health platform connecting education, clinical care, prescriptions, medication delivery, and ongoing support.
